The beautiful planet Pern seemed a paradise to its new colonists - until unimaginable terror turned it into hell. Dick Hill's growly voice and staccato delivery require careful concentration from the listener throughout the opening chapters of Dragonsdawn. The narration seems rushed, making it difficult to sort out the multitude of characters, despite the energetic efforts of Hill to differentiate voices.
